The troops first challenged the intruder to stop, but she kept on moving towards the border security fence, hence the BSF troops opened fire at her, killing her on the spot.

A woman, said to be 25-30 years of age, allegedly intruding from Pakistan was shot dead by the Border Security Force at the border outpost of Ghaniake in Gurdaspur sector on Tuesday night.

BSF’s Punjab frontier senior public relations officer, deputy inspector general RS Kataria said here on Wednesday that the BSF troops observed suspicious movement of the woman who had crossed the international border and come into Indian territory.

Kataria said the troops first challenged the intruder to stop, “but she kept on moving towards the border security fence, hence the BSF troops opened fire at her, killing her on the spot”.

He added that the BSF contacted the Pakistan Rangers to hand over the body, but they refused to take it. Later the body was handed over to the police at Dera Baba Nanak to perform her last rites.
