One person was injured when an Indian Coast Guard helicopter crashed just after takeoff from its enclave at the Cochin International Airport Limited, but the "presence of mind" of the pilot saved the lives of three persons onboard.

Six new ‘eyes in the sky’ for IAF to be built by DRDO on Air India planes

Government sources said that as per the discussions on the AEW&C Block 2 aircraft to be developed by the DRDO under a Rs 10,500 crore project, the six aircraft would be acquired from the Air India fleet and modified to fly with a radar that will give 360-degree surveillance capability to the defence forces.

Proposal to raise retirement age, slash pensions in armed forces

The proposed cuts in pensions range from 25% to 50% of the entitled pension depending on an officer’s length of service at the time of leaving the job.

The increased retirement age of officers will allow colonels, brigadiers and major generals to serve longer, with jawans and junior commissioned officers from some non-combat branches also getting service extension that will see them retire at the age of 57 instead of around 40 to 52. (PTI photo)

Varanasi’s Shivangi Singh to be first woman to fly Rafale

Shivangi Singh, who hails from Varanasi, is currently being trained to fly IAF’s newest fighter based in Ambala. She is undergoing conversion training to fly the Rafale jet and will soon join the Ambala-based No. 17 squadron, also known as “Golden Arrows.”

The head count of women in the military adds up to more than 4,000, but combat roles were off limits to them until IAF took the lead in crushing internal resistance to induct them into the fighter stream.
