Depression, anxiety, stress and cognitive impairment is a common occurrence in patients detected with epilepsy. Epilepsy happens when one experiences unpredictable seizures. In an interview with Zarafshan Shiraz of HT Lifestyle, Dr Priyanka Tater, Neurologist at Zynova Shalby Hospital, explained, “While it affects people of all ages, it often develops in childhood or later adulthood. While the most well-known symptom of epilepsy is convulsions or jerking movements, there are several other signs to be aware of. International Epilepsy Day 2024: 5 myths regarding epilepsy and seizures

The lack of awareness about epilepsy and seizures is a startling reality that often goes unnoticed and while many people have a general understanding of what epilepsy is, there remains a significant gap in knowledge about the condition and its impact on individuals' lives. This International Epilepsy Day, it is crucial to recognise that epilepsy is not merely experiencing occasional seizures and can profoundly affect someone's physical, mental and emotional well-being. In an interview with Zarafshan Shiraz of HT Lifestyle, Dr Pankaj Agarwal, Senior Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Department of Neurology at Global Hospitals in Mumbai's Parel, shared, “This lack of awareness can lead to stigmatization and discrimination against those living with epilepsy, further complicating their everyday experiences. Facts about Ramsay Hunt Syndrome: Tips to treat this rare neurological disorder

Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS) is a rare neurological disorder accompanied by paralysis of the facial nerve (facial palsy) and a rash affecting the ear or mouth but there is not much awareness regarding it. The varicella-zoster virus is the factor causing Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is the same virus that leads to chickenpox and shingles. If one has this syndrome then the virus will infect the facial nerve near the inner ear which causes irritation and swelling of the nerve. It is seen in adults and occurs rarely in children. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Pavan Pai, Interventional Neurologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, revealed, “The symptoms of it are ear pain, rash on the eardrum, ear canal, earlobe, tongue, and roof of the mouth on the side with the affected nerve, hearing loss on one side, vertigo, facial paralysis, and problems in opening the eyes.” (Twitter/DrAo94)
