Translation error changes buffalo meat to beef in ad, lands Byculla zoo in soup

A BMC tender invitation notice was put out in a few regional newspapers on October 9 inviting tenders to supply buffalo meat for the animals in the Byculla zoo. It was mistakenly translated as cow meat or beef in a few Hindi and Gujarati newspapers, said the zoo director.

As of now, there is only one Hyena at the Byculla Zoo in Mumbai which mostly feeds on chicken. But the zoo authorities floated tender for buffalo meat keeping in mind future needs when more animals would be added to the zoo during its expansion.(Arijit Sen/HT File)
