Bengal begins survey to identify people with co-morbidities to reduce Covid-19 mortality rate

Till August 24 at least 2,851 people, who had tested positive for Covid-19, have died. Co-morbidity was present in 2,483 patients, which is around 87% of the total deaths. In only around 13% of the cases there were no co-morbidities.

In Bengal, more than 400 migrants test positive for Covid-19, state count soars

Of them, the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Hooghly and Howrah are the most affected, as most of the state’s migrant workers hail from these districts. Of Bengal’s 23 districts, only two in north Bengal are presently unaffected by Covid-19.

School student, injured in Kolkata carpool accident dies of multiple organ failure

Police had created a 60-km long green corridor to bring Singh and Dibyanshu Bhakat to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on February 14 after their carpool vehicle fell into a roadside canal. They were among the at least 15 students, one guardian and driver who were injured in the accident.

Six held for abducting man for running fake job racket

The abductors told the police during interrogation, that the man, whom they had kidnapped, had earlier duped at least four people of Rs 10.5 lakhs with the promise of providing them jobs in the army. The man was booked for cheating.

Worms found in midday meal for children at Bengal’s ICDS centre

The incident happened on Saturday at Charai village, about 190 kilometres from Kolkata, in the Dantan area of the district. On Friday, the state government announced a fixed menu for midday meals, days after students of a girl’s school in Hooghly district were served only rice and salt.

IIT-Delhi student found hanging in hostel room, blames sexual assault in note

Gopal Maloo, from Hooghly in West Bengal, was a first year student of Masters in Chemistry at the institute. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at Nilgiri Hostel.
