With meal price hike, fares to go up for 3 express trains

The Indian Railways has decided to increase tariffs for these trains with a hike in standard meals served on these through its subsidiary — the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism (IRCTC) — from March 29, 2020.

A circular by the national transporter said the food-rate hike was done after six years for Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto and after 7 years for Mail/Express trains on the recommendation of a committee tasked with the revision. It added that “rational pricing” was required to ensure “quality of meals”.

According to the new order, in first class AC and executive class, tea will cost Rs 35, up by Rs 6, breakfast Rs 140, up by Rs 7, lunch and dinner Rs 245, up by Rs 15.

The outstation trains on Central and Western Railway include Rajdhani, Shatabdi and other intercity trains. The cost of the project is Rs100 crore, with Rs 88.95 crore being the cost of installing the tracking devices.
