Mysterious red glow over Atlantic Ocean looks like a portal to Stranger Things’ Upside Down
A picture shared on Reddit of a red glow over Atlantic Ocean that reminded people of Stranger Things is going viral.
Picture of a ‘strange’ and eerie red glow reportedly spotted over the Atlantic Ocean have taken the Internet by storm. Shared by a Reddit user, the image has gone viral and sparked a chatter among netizens with many coming up with different theories to explain the incident. A few also shared how they were reminded of Netflix’s sci-fi web series Stranger Things.
“Mysterious red glow seen over the Atlantic, pilot says he’s never seen anything like it. Via July 2022,” reads the caption posted along with the picture. The image shows a bright red glow visible from amid the clouds.

Since being shared four days ago, the post has gathered more than 1.1 lakh upvotes and the numbers are only increasing. The share has also prompted people to post various comments.
“The new Stranger Things season looking wild,” wrote a Reddit user. Some, however, tried to come up with explanations behind the occurrence. Just like this individual who shared, “They are boats equipped with large arrays of red LED panels for Saury fishing.” According to a report by the Mirror, fishing boats often use LED lights to attract saury fish.
Besides the image, a video also made its way to Twitter. A user of the micro-blogging platform who goes by Moneyway wrote, “Video footage of a mysterious red glow over the Atlantic Ocean,” while sharing the video.
A Twitter user tagged a fact-finder publication and asked their thoughts on the video. To which, the organisation HoaxEye replied that the lights are from LED fishing boats. They also added that the same occurrence was noticed back in 2014 as well. However, on Twitter too, some people linked it with Stranger Things. Just like this individual who wrote, “That's the last gate to reach Vecna.” Another Twitter user added, “Stranger Things Music Begins playing.”
