German Leader Shreds Israeli Military Strategy While Netanyahu Watches; Warns Against Rafah Op

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticised Israel’s military strategy in Gaza in presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The more desperate the situation of the people in Gaza becomes, the more this begs the question: No matter how important the goal can it justify such terribly high costs, or are there other ways to achieve your goal?” Scholz said during a joint press conference with Netanyahu. Germany is one of Israel’s staunchest allies but the rising civilian toll in Gaza and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the besieged Palestinian strip has forced Berlin to talk tough.
