India has strongly called for urgent United Nations reforms, warning that the global body cannot function effectively with an institutional structure “frozen in the 1940s.” Speaking at the UN Security Council, India’s Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish said growing concerns over the UN’s legitimacy, relevance, and effectiveness highlight the need for a more adaptable and representative multilateral system. Drawing attention to India’s historic contribution, Harish noted that over 2.5 million Indian soldiers fought alongside Allied powers in World War II, with more than 87,000 making the supreme sacrifice, yet India’s role was not duly recognised in the post-war global order.
