Cabinet approves women's quota bill

The Indian cabinet approved the long-awaited Women Reservation Bill, which provides for 33 per cent of reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures. The Bill was referred to the Standing Committee of Parliament on December 17, 2009 and its report was placed before the Lok Sabha by lawmaker of BJP Shahnawaz Hussain, and in the Rajya Sabha by ruling Congress lawmaker Jayanti Natrajan on Thursday.
