There is fresh surge of covid cases in China due to delta variant, prompting authorities to re-impose curbs to prevent the spread of the virus. Cases in China's southeastern province of Fujian have doubled over the past four days. The virus has also spread to south China to Xiamen with new cases of community transmission emerging. Authorities in China say that the latest surge has been caused by the delta variant. A strict lockdown is in place in affected areas and people have been asked to step out only for essential reasons.
