Despite Syrian war, Damascene roses bloom again

The famed Damascene rose is being cultivated once again as farmers return to the Syrian village of Mrah. The Damascene rose has a strong scent and is grown by farmers & then the scent is extracted. The rose is used in cosmetics & food products like rose water or rose syrup.
