NASA tests the motor of the largest, most powerful booster in the world for its new deep space rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS). According to NASA, the SLS and the Orion spacecraft will launch astronauts on missions to explore destinations on the journey to Mars. The two-minute test of the booster's motor was meant to provide NASA with data for further testing in advance of its scheduled liftoff in 2018 with a deep-space Orion capsule. The rocket is expected to be used to launch astronauts and equipment to Mars one day.
