‘Yellow vest’ protests spread to the Netherlands
The month-long French demonstrations, which have led to repeated rioting in Paris, have inspired protesters in a number of mostly European countries. Protesters in Netherlands began their own marches sporting the fluorescent yellow gilets. Scores of yellow vest protesters marched through the streets of Leeuwarden. They marched in the city to protest the high cost of living. The yellow vest protests began in France last month as a demonstration against fuel tax rises but have since morphed into a more general opposition to French President Emmanuel Macron.
