Updates: Royals emerge for balcony wave following King Charles' coronation

Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster are among the latest sights to have come into view as King Charles' procession travels down Parliament Street.

King Charles III left Buckingham Palace for the final mile of a seven-decade journey from heir to monarch, headed to Westminster Abbey to be crowned in a ceremony steeped in 1,000 years of tradition.

The royal couple are travelling at a stately pace in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which was commissioned for Queen Elizabeth II in 2012.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is walking into Westminster Abbey, one of the final guests to arrive.

The Met Police commented on the arrests of anti-monarchy protesters saying that a "significant police operation" was under way in central London.

The police said a number of people had been arrested in the area of Carlton House Terrace on suspicion of breaching peace.

US First Lady Dr Jill Biden arrived in a three-car motorcade, alongside her granddaughter Finnegan. US President Joe Biden himself is not at the coronation.

Camilla, King Charles III's wife, will officially become 'Queen' from 'Queen Consort' following the coronation ceremony where Charles will be crowned the King of the United Kingdom at Westminster Abbey in London. The solemn religious ceremony dates back almost a thousand years and the Westminster Abbey has been the site of every British coronation since that of William The Conqueror in 1066.

Inside the abbey, guests are taking their seats while listening to music by internationally renowned conductor - Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

Sir John Eliot became friends with King Charles after meeting him at an event at Sandringham, BBC reported. 

Republic said that the group's leader was one of six people arrested about an hour ago. Its post said: "This morning, Graham Smith and five members of our team were arrested. Hundreds of placards were seized. Is this democracy?"

Graham Smith had earlier told BBC, "Most people can't remember the last time, so it's not a tradition that means anything to anybody. It has no constitutional value, it's not required, and if we didn't do it, Charles would still be King."

The Archbishop of Canterbury will carry out the ceremony. He will perform the anointing ceremony, known as the Act of Consecration, which will take place before the investiture and crowning. The oil used in the ceremony is known as the Chrism oil.

The guests continue to arrive at the Westminster Abbey for King Charles' coronation. There is no single dress code, BBC reports.

People in the crowd screamed his name as Charles stepped from his car wearing a blue suit. Fans could also be heard yelling “God save the king" as the British monarch approached them. Then this happened. 

St Edward's Crown -- a solid gold, sacred symbol of the monarch's authority used only once in their reign -- will be placed on King Charles's head.

"No other country could put on such a dazzling display - the processions, the pageantry, the ceremonies, and street parties," UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, adding, "It's a proud expression of our history, culture, and traditions. A vivid demonstration of the modern character of our country. And a cherished ritual through which a new era is born."

Australia's Sydney Opera House will not light up its sails to mark the coronation of King Charles- considered head of state across the country. The decision is a cost saving measure, a spokesperson for the state government of New South Wales said as per news agency Reuters. Read more

Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held in June 1953 and was attended by over 8,000 guests although Charles's “slim-down” coronation is expected to be shorter in length and have no more than 2,800 guests in the audience.

Lambeth Palace has envisioned a “chorus of millions” swearing their allegiance to King Charles III and his “heirs and successors” at the coronation.

A royal expert claimed that King Charles has doubts on whether his son Prince Harry will attend the coronation amid claims that the the Duke of Sussex gave no details of what day or time he would be arriving in the UK for the ceremony.
