Houston shooting: Officer injured on North Wayside Drive, suspect firing at vehicles; what we know so far
Houston Police shot an armed suspect who opened fire on vehicles and officers, leaving a young woman injured.
Houston Police Department command staff and its public information officer headed to the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 6300 N. Wayside Drive, police said.

What happened
According to preliminary information from police, officers opened fire on an armed suspect who was shooting at vehicles in the area. The suspect also fired at the officers before being shot.
The suspect, a Black male believed to be in his 20s, was carrying out a drive-by shooting using an automatic long gun, as per police. He is now down and has been handcuffed. EMS teams are currently treating him at the scene, according to scanner reports.

Woman also shot
Police said EMS assistance was also needed for a 21-year-old woman who was shot by the suspect during the drive-by shooting, as per scanner report.
More details are expected to be released as the investigation continues at the scene, according to police.
