Paula White-Cain, a televangelist and spiritual adviser to former President Donald Trump, has long been in Christian circles and is now facing a huge backlash from the same community over being a “false teacher” row.

Who is Paula White-Cain?

White-Cain was appointed as Trump's special advisor to the Faith and Opportunity Initiative, a position created within the White House Office of Public Liaison in 2019.

Her appointment followed years of close ties with Trump, dating back to 2002 when she became his spiritual counsellor. She also delivered the invocation at his 2017 inauguration, making history as the first female clergy member to do so.

Under Trump’s administration, the Faith Office was restructured to focus on combating “anti-Christian bias.” White-Cain was tasked with assisting Attorney General Pam Bondi in addressing cases related to religious liberty.

Christian pastor divided on White House faith office policies

However, some faith-based organizations argue that the administration did not do enough to protect religious charities from government funding cuts.

“The most significant distinction here is that under both Republican and Democratic administrations, the Faith Office has thought well of religious charity in this country,” Michael Wear, a writer and founder of a Christian nonprofit who previously worked in Barack Obama’s faith-based partnerships office, told NOTUS.

“This might be the first administration that has set out to disparage faith-based charity in this country.”

Many conservative Christians also reject her endorsement of the prosperity gospel—a doctrine that claims faith and financial donations lead to divine blessings.

“Anybody that you know holds true to strong biblical conviction and discernment wouldn’t be involved with Paula White,” conservative influencer Jon Root told NOTUS. “She’s 100 per cent a false teacher.”

Interestingly, Baptist leader William Wolfe defended the White House pastor, stating, “The White House Faith Office is not a church; it is a governmental office doing policy and political work.”

“No one in that room had to compromise on any theological beliefs to be there, but rather, we were all there because, despite any theological differences, we understand the importance of working together on major issues like religious liberty, protecting the unborn in America, combating the radical LGBT agenda that is harming children, etc.”

During her Passover sermon, White-Cain even stated, “Ministry takes money. And if you have the ability to stand with us, I want to ask you to put your faith during this very holy time—because I give just to give, and I pray there are others, but also know we wanna get you some special gifts.”
