Want to pay your electricity bill? Open a mobile app and the bill is paid. This will soon turn into a reality with the Madhya Pradesh Poorv Vidyut Kshetra Vitran Company (MP Eastern Power Discom) launching a mobile app to facilitate bill payment.
With the state government moving ahead in providing facilities through internet and mobile apps, the Eastern Power Discom would be the first electricity company in Madhya Pradesh to provide this facility.
Now, the consumers can pay their bill payments through their smartphones using Airtel Money and Vodafone M Paisa mobile app. Simultaneously, this facility will also be provided at ICICI Bank portal.
"We have prepared the mobile app and would be launching it sometimes later this month," said Vivek Chandra, general manager, IT of Eastern Power Discom. Consumers will have to download the app on their mobile phone and feed their service number in the app and their bill would be displayed on their screens, said Chandra.
Explaining about the safety features of the app, Chandra said the bill amount would be deducted from the main balance of the phone. The app does not have any link with bank account of the consumer therefore it would be hundred percent safe.
The app will also have facility where they can see the number of units consumed. This would help them check use or misuse of electricity or faulty billing, added Chandra.
Eastern Power Discom caters to consumers in Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Chhindwara, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi and Shahdol.
A senior official of energy department wishing anonymity said that this experiment could be replicated in other companies as well, if proved successful with consumers in its area.
