Filmmaker-host Karan Johar recently appeared on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show Pinch and was asked to follow, block or unfollow Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan. While Karan refused to unfollow or block any of them, he chose to follow Alia. On being asked to chose among male actors, he said, “I will block Ranbir Kapoor as he is not on social media, unfollow Varun Dhawan because I am following him all the time in life anyway and follow Sidharth Malhotra.”
On being asked about the one celebrity he would like to go on a social media detox, Karan immediately came up with Varun’s name for being regularly updated about his workouts and diet all the time.
He also took complete blame of what happened in an episode of Koffee With Karan featuring Team India cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.
Talking about the controversial episode, after which his guests were criticised for certain comments they made, Karan said, “I feel very responsible for the fact that both Hardik and Rahul are going through what they are. Yes, things are said on that show, there is a certain comfort. I can’t speak for people’s personal opinions on questions that are asked. And maybe sometimes the casual nature of the show lends itself to certain responses that may or may not agree with the fabric of our country. I am completely in support of the opinions that came out as a result of that because things that were said may have been or were inappropriate.”
He added, “I would take complete blame, the show is mine, it’s my responsibility and I feel really bad every day.
He also replied to a Twitter user who accused him of asking sexist questions, and said, “I ask the same questions to the women as well -- to rank men. This has been going on for fourteen years. Why are you bringing these things today.”
Talking about the nature of Koffee With Karan, he went on to say, “Yes, the questions are frivolous, risque, sexual in nature sometimes. If that is not your cup of tea then don’t watch my coffee. I am a very strong feminist who believes in the power of women and I would never in my own capacity, knowingly upset or offend women by the nature of anything I do.”
Stating that the two cricketers have already been punished, he said, “I carry the burden of this and it’s impacted the show. My show doesn’t matter but their careers matter.”
