Budget Highlights 2024: Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Interim Budget today ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, marking the final budget in the second term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This budget is interim in nature and the comprehensive budget for the financial year 2024-25 will be introduced only after the formation of the new government following the general elections.

The Interim Budget outlines expenditures and revenues until the formation of a new government as it helps the government to manage its financial obligations.

Major announcements of 2024 Interim Budget:

  1. Two crore more homes under PM Awas Yojana
  2. Housing for deserving sections of the middle class “living in rented houses, or slums, or chawls and unauthorized colonies”
  3. Rooftop solar for at least 300 units of power generation which will be free electricity for households
  4. Enhancement of target for Lakhpati Didi Scheme from 2 crore women to 3 crore women
