The benchmark Sensex failed to hold on to the early gains and shed over 100 points at midsession on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday on emergence of heavy selling by funds, sparked by fresh political developments on nuclear issue.
The Sensex, which had moved up by over 306 points in the morning trade, plunged to trade lower by 106.92 points at 14,141.74 following reports that CPI-M Central Committee has endorsed Politburo decision to ask government not to operationalise the Indo-US nuclear deal.
The second wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty dropped by 48.15 points at 4,105 as almost all sectoral indices declined led by bank, metal and capital goods declined.
