The ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India (GoI), created 323 posts of the nursing cadre for the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, with the concurrence of the department of expenditure, GoI.

The creation of the posts was a long-pending demand of the GMCH, Chandigarh. Of the 323 posts, 316 posts are of staff nurse, six nursing sisters and one matron.
