Zira stir: Water sampling team to start sample collection

Ferozepur: Four representatives of the water sampling team from SAI, Patiala and SRM, New Delhi, reached Zira on Wednesday and are slated to start the probe tomorrow even as the protest outside Malbros International Private Limited, an alcohol-making unit at Mansurwal village of Zira assembly segment in Ferozepur entered day 165.

The two labs were picked by protesters, who have since refused to join probe teams alleging bias. The teams were formed by the state government to examine allegations of pollution against the factory.
“Four representatives of SAI, Patiala, and SRM, New Delhi, have reached here today evening. They will visit various sites inside the liquor factory and surrounding villages to collect samples from 15 spots,” said Sagar Setia, additional deputy commissioner (general), Ferozepur, who is also the nodal officer for probe committees.
Sanjha Morcha, Zira, again claimed that they had boycotted the probe due to the alleged biased attitude of the probe committees and the Punjab government.
19 protesters apply to revoke their suspended arms licences
As many as 19 protesters out of 22, whose arm licences were suspended by the Ferozepur administration, have applied to revoke the same.
“To date, we have received 19 applications by protesters to revoke their respective firearm licences, which were suspended as a precaution to maintain law and order at the ongoing protest site,” said Kanwardeep Kaur, senior superintendent of police, Ferozepur.
“We are looking into their applications positively, provided we get written affirmation from applicants that they won’t carry firearms to the protest site,” added SSP.
