Two men, including cop, booked for ‘molesting woman’

NEW DELHI A 37-year-old head constable and a 46-year-old man have been booked for allegedly molesting a woman and misbehaving with senior officers of the Mahendra Park police station, the police said on Saturday.

The police received information about the molestation of the 22-year-old woman on November 18, officers aware of the matter said. The woman arrived at Mahendra Park police station with the two men and claimed she was molested by them, police said. “The complainant was being questioned further in the presence of female police officers when the accused head constable began misbehaving with staff on duty to obstruct inquiry,” said Rangnani.

The Station House Officer of Mahendra Park police station also tried to pacify him and take him away from the complainant so that her statement could be recorded, but the head constable manhandled the SHO as well, said Rangnani.

The head constable is posted at a Metro station in north west Delhi. Rangnani said he alleged that he was manhandled by the SHO, and both the allegations are being “probed on their merits”.

A case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (outraging the modesty of women), 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against both the men.
