Have you photocopied your form?

The new rule of photocopying the pre-admission form is fuelling confusion among students seeking admission to DU Colleges, reports Siddhartha Roy.

STUDENTS NOTE: after filling up the college admission form, photocopy both sides of the form. While depositing it, get the photocopy stamped and keep it as a receipt. Easier said than done.

The new rule of photocopying the pre-admission form is fuelling confusion among students seeking admission to Delhi University Colleges. Prabhat Kumar, a student, had queued up at a form counter at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, his form duly filled. He had, however, forgotten to photocopy it and his form was returned.

"I had no idea the form had to be photocopied and there were not much instructions about that," he said.

Though all the centres selling and accepting forms have arranged for photocopy machines inside the campus, many students are turning up without a copy. "Though the form is not creating as much confusion as it did last year: this time most students are confused about the photocopy part," said an official manning a form counter at ARSD College.

"Half the students do not come with a copy and we have to direct them to the photocopier. Strangely, some who do come with a copy, keep it with themselves as they do not know those have to stamped and numbered by us," he said.

Similar scenes could be seen at other centres like Gargi College and the dean, students welfare offices, in both north and south campus. Another problem was of bad photocopies.

Though the photocopiers at centres like Gargi College and ARSD College were good, the trouble was with the photocopy shops outside the campus. "I had taken a form from ARSD College on Saturday and took it home, where I filled it at ease.

I got it photocopied from a neighbourhood shop but the copy was not good and I had to get it copied again," said Shailesh Kandpal, a resident of R.K. Puram. "Though we have a photocopy machine in the college, some students are going to shops in nearby Satya Niketan. The copies are not even legible, as you cannot even make out which college or courses the student has marked," the ARSD official said.
