Homebuyers approach Gadkari over NPR completion

Homebuyers have formed an association -- Dwarka Expressway Welfare Association -- and written a letter to the minister.

In a bid to fast-track the completion and operation of the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), also known as the Dwarka Expressway, homebuyers who have brought apartments in sectors along the road project have approached Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari. Homebuyers have formed an association -- Dwarka Expressway Welfare Association -- and written a letter to the minister.

“You might be aware that the completion date of this road has been revised more than seven times and there are lot of challenges which needs to resolved. Over a 70 thousands of flat buyers and other stakeholders are suffering due to huge economic loss and mental agony brought by the inordinate delay. We wish to draw your urgent attention towards this issue (sic),” the letter says.

The Dwarka Expressway is an 18-km stretch connecting Dwarka in Delhi and National Highway 8 near Kherki Daula in Gurgaon, catering to more than 30 upcoming Huda sectors. The expressway is considered to be big boon for the sectors 81 to 115 where hundreds of housing projects are held up solely because of the unfinished NPR work.

On March 21, the Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) to resolve the dispute of general power of attorney holders, whose property was acquired for the highway project, in two months.

Sanket Maindiratta, a homebuyer, said, “We are paying instalments (EMI) to banks for home loans and living in rented accommodation, paying rent. We have been waiting for a long time for the road project to be completed. We wish to seek the Union Minister’s intervention in the matter.”

The homebuyers hope their letter to the Union minister would have an impact on NPR construction.

“Infrastructure developments such as water, sewer, roads and electricity of the area is also pending for long. Now, we hope to see faster growth with the completion of the Dwarka Expressway at the earliest,” Komal Ahuja another homebuyer, said.
