The court, in an order in 1993, had asked the city authorities about regularisation.

A meeting chaired by AK Walia, who heads Delhi's urban development department, decided that the Union urban development ministry will take up the case of unauthorised colonies. "We have compiled a report regarding the status of the illegal colonies and the steps that have been taken by the department. The Union urban development ministry will now approach the high court," said a senior Delhi government official.

Officials said the report would help vacate an earlier HC order, which allowed the government to provide basic amenities at illegal colonies but said it will not be deemed regularisation.
