Baldev, who worked as a security guard at a petrol pump in Yamuna Vihar in east Delhi, was going to deposit the cash around 10 am when the incident took place.

"The guard carrying the money was walking down to the bank just opposite the petrol pump when two men on motorbike tried to snatch the bag from his hand. When he resisted they fired at him," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) SS Yadav told IANS.

"One of the assailant was walking close to him and was tracking his movements as he left the petrol pump for the bank. He was passing on the information about Baldev's movements to the other two assailants on motorbike. The trio then fled from the spot," said Yadav.

Baldev generally used to carry his rifle along whenever he used to go for depositing money but on Monday he left the rifle at the petrol pump, he said.

"He was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead," he added.
