'Ramayana in global avatar': TV's Lord Krishna, Nitish Bharadwaj, impressed with Ranbir Kapoor's avatar as Lord Rama

The much-awaited teaser of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana was finally unveiled on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti 2026 at a grand launch in Mumbai. The teaser showed the first look of Ranbir as Lord Rama and has since received mixed reactions from the audience. In an interview with Times Now, actor and politician Nitish Bharadwaj, who played Lord Rama in B. R. Chopra’s Ramayan (2001), and is best known for portraying Lord Krishna in Mahabharat (1988-89), also reacted to the teaser.
Nitish Bharadwaj reacts to Ramayana teaser
Nitish reacted to the teaser of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and extended his best wishes to the entire team. He said, “Ramayana in a global avatar. Best wishes to Nitesh Tiwari & the team.”
Before Nitish, Dipika Chikhlia, who played the role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, had also reviewed the teaser and said, “I watched the teaser, and it's very grand. Bahut rich lag raha hai. Unhone bahut achhe se banaya hai. So now I'm awaiting the film, and it's looking very beautiful, there's no doubt about it.”
About the Ramayana teaser
The Ramayana teaser showed Ranbir looking regal as Lord Rama and fighting like a warrior. It also gave a glimpse of Yash’s look as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, without revealing their faces, adding to the excitement among fans. While some viewers were impressed by the teaser’s visuals, others criticised it for its “cartoonish VFX”. Some internet users also claimed that Ranbir was a misfit for the role.
About Ramayana
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by Namit Malhotra and Yash, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The film is one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, and the two-part epic is reportedly being made on a budget of ₹4000 crore.
Before the grand unveiling on Thursday, the teaser was screened to a select audience in Los Angeles earlier in the week. There, talking about working on Ramayana, Ranbir revealed he had initially hesitated to take up the role, thinking he was not ready for it. However, the birth of his daughter Raha changed his decision. “I remember when Namit offered me this part around 4 years ago, my instant reaction was ‘No’, I'm not fit enough, not good enough, and I won't be able to do full justice,” the actor said.
Ramayana Part One is slated to release in October 2026, ahead of Diwali. The concluding second part will release next year.
