Tabu reveals her 'very challenging' cop character in Kuttey 'was written for male actor: 'It was changed for me'
Actor Tabu plays a character in Kuttey which was originally meant for a male actor. The trailer for the film, directed by Aasmaan Bhardwaj, was launched on Tuesday.
Tabu, who is all set to play a police officer in Aasmaan Bhardwaj's upcoming film Kuttey, revealed that her character was written for a male actor. The trailer of Kuttey was unveiled on Tuesday. The heist thriller also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arjun Kapoor, Konkona Sensharma, Kumud Mishra, Radhika Madan and Shardul Bhardwaj in key roles. Kuttey follows three gangs who have all made a similar plan to steal from a van filled with money. (Also read: Kuttey trailer: Arjun Kapoor, Tabu are out to cross one another in this heist thriller. Kuttey marks Aasmaan's directorial debut. However, the actor had no qualms working for a new filmmaker as she previously worked with his father Vishal Bhardwaj on several of his films. Aasmaan had previously assisted his father in the films Kaminey (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013) and Pataakha (2018).
At the film's trailer launch today, Tabu told India Today, "Aasmaan is a different kind of filmmaker and there is no comparison with Vishal Bhardwaj’s films. Of course, thought and aesthetics are similar, but his cinema is different. Actually, this character was written for a male actor, but it was changed for me. It was very challenging and fun at the same time to play this character.”
She also added, “It also felt like home because I was there when Aasmaan was born. I remember Gulzar saab had named him Aasmaan. I also remember seeing him as a kid on the sets of Maqbool, with a wooden camera set. So for me, coming from there, when I read the script, I felt that this was a very different kind of writing. The character is completely different from anything I have played recently.”
In the trailer, it is shown that both Tabu and Arjun play police officers, and they both have the same idea to rob the money van. As the lone woman in the man's world, her character has a bit of weariness to her. The character is both cool and confident, even when things go wrong.
Kuttey, which is produced by Luv Ranjan, Vishal, Ankur Garg, and Rekha Bhardwaj, will release in theatres on January 13, 2023. The veteran lyricist Gulzar will be penning the songs while Vishal will compose the music.
