Bengali actor Saibal Bhattacharya tries to kill self over family dispute, shares video on Facebook

Actor Saibal Bhattacharya, who attempted suicide, was recovered from his Kolkata flat and taken to a hospital, as per a news report. He is known for his work in Bengali TV shows.

Bengali actor Saibal Bhattacharya reportedly attempted suicide at his Kolkata home and shared a video of himself in a hurt state on Facebook. The actor, who is known for his role in the Bengali serial Prothoma Kadambini, was found at his residence and is now in hospital, as per a news report. News of Saibal’s attempted suicide comes months after Bengali actors Pallavi Dey and Bidisha De Majumdar, and model-actor Manjusha Niyogi allegedly died by suicide.

Saibal Chatterjee shared a video of himself attempting suicide on Facebook.

As per reports in local media, Saibal was upset with his professional life as he was not getting work. He was suffering from depression and also struggled with substance abuse, as per a report, which said the actor hit himself with a sharp object on Monday night. In the video, a Facebook live, he said, "I was forced to take it in my own hands. For this my wife, mother-in-law and...' the video cut off before he could finish speaking.

As per a report in Anandabazar Patrika, Saibal was allegedly found at his Kasba home in south Kolkata before being admitted to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. The report added that Saibal was a popular actor and essayed the role of father and uncle in various shows. Apart from acting, he would also write scripts and dialogues.

In May, many Kolkata-based actors reportedly died by suicide. A preliminary post-mortem report had suggested that television actor Pallavi Dey, who was found dead in her south Kolkata residence. However, due to allegations by the parents of the deceased, police started probing the ‘abetment to suicide’ angle. Days later, another Bengali actor, Bidisha De Majumdar, was found dead at her apartment in Kolkata. A suicide note was reportedly recovered after she was found hanging inside her home in Dumdum, where she lived with her parents.

Earlier, Bengali television actor Pallabi Dey was found dead in her flat in south Kolkata. However, Kolkata police reportedly did not find any suicide note. Her family members reportedly alleged that she may have been murdered.
