NIA gets new headquarters in New Delhi

In the initial years, the agency functioned from two rented out commercial buildings in the capital, and was later given space in the home ministry’s office in the NDCC building near Jantar Mantar.

India’s federal anti-terrorism probe agency, the National Investigation Agency, set up in 2009 in the aftermath of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has a new headquarters in New Delhi.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the new office at CGO complex amid Vedic chants on Tuesday.

In the initial years, the agency functioned from two rented out commercial buildings in the capital, and was later given space in the home ministry offices in the NDCC building near Jantar Mantar.

Speaking at the inauguration, Rajnath Singh praised the agency, saying it has established its credibility and impartiality in last eight years.

He also said that the home ministry has allowed the NIA to take decisions in administrative matters on its own as it is an autonomous body.

He also lauded the agency’s probe into the funding of separatists, saying it has put a hurdle in the flow of funds to the militants and their morale was hit badly.

NIA director general Sharad Kumar and his successor, Y C Modi, who will take over on his retirement on October 30, also spoke on the occasion.

“I will live up to your expectations. I will not let you down,” Y C Modi said in his vote of thanks.
