2 killed as vehicle rolls down into gorge

Two persons, including a policeman, died and another was injured when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Chambalwas on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway late on Thursday night, police said.

Two persons, including a policeman, died and another was injured when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Chambalwas on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway late on Thursday night, police said.

According to police, the vehicles carrying seven bovines rolled down into the Shallgari Nullah resulting in death of two persons and injuries to another. The ill-fated vehicle was on way to Kashmir from Jammu.

The deceased have been identified as constable Muhammad Sharif Malik, son of Habibullah Mali, resident of Neel Banihal and Amanat Ali Shah, resident of Ragura Sidhra, Jammu. Reports added that seven bovines, including three buffalos, also died in the accident.

Meanwhile, one critically injured person, Bota Sain, son of Abdul Hameed of Bagh-i-Bahu, Jammu, first shifted to the sub-district hospital Banihal was later referred to the SMHS Hospital Srinagar.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in this regard and further investigations are on.
