The strike has been called by the Motor Workers Trade Union Coordination Committee seeking hike in fare structure and withdrawal of metres in autorikshaws plying in rural and village areas, Committee sources here said.

Transport Minister Jose Thettayil had called for deferring the strike till the scheduled Cabinet Sub-Committee Meeting on December 23 to decide on the issues raised by the auto-taxi operators.

The Coordination Committee comprises Trade Unions like INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS and BMS.
