Captaincy a bit too much for Gilli

He may have led Australia to a thumping 217-run win over India in the first cricket Test, but stand-in skipper Adam Gilchrist has revealed that he does not relish captaincy as "it's a bit too much to take on."

Gilchrist, who led from the front with a fine century to give the visitors' a superb start to their campaign in India, also admitted that he was not interested in the job on a full-time basis as there were others in the team more suited for that role.

"It's (captaincy) a bit too much to take on but the main reason is I don't have a huge interest in captaincy. There are a number of other guys like Ricky (Ponting), Shane Warne and Darren Lehmann who are so astute in their cricket knowledge. I don't see myself like that," Gilchrist said.

On his plans on the Indian tour, Gilchrist said he was planning to play with a lot straighter bat and give more respect to the opposition bowlers.

"The sweep is always going to come into it, but may be I'll concentrate on playing straighter and not premeditating the sweep.

"May be it's about being a little more respectful to the bowling - not that I'm ever disrepectful," he said in an interview in the latest issue of Wisden Cricketer magazine.
