Centre flayed for petrol, diesel price hike

SEVERAL POLITICAL parties on Tuesday protested against the Congress-led UPA Government decision to raise prices of petrol and diesel.

While the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a rally at the district headquarters and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the workers of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and its Yuvajan Sabha stopped a train at the Allahabad station.

According to reports, a large number of BJP activists led by district president Narendra Pandey reached the collectorate and shouted slogans against the Central Government. Pandey said that the UPA Government was anti-people as it had broken all records in effecting hike in prices of petrol and diesel. He said that the price rise would have far-reaching effect and cause inflation.

Owing to the price rise, the farmers would worst-affected, he added.

Pandey said that the Left parties were only shedding crocodile tears on the price rise.

Meanwhile, the activists of Samajwadi Yuvajan Sabha led by district president Ravindra Yadav stopped the Mumbai-Howrah Express at the junction station to lodge their protest against the price hike. SP district president Jokhu Lal Yadav said that his party would organise a massive protest against rise in petrol and diesel prices on June 13 at the district headquarters.

The Bharatiya Jan Shakti Party (BJSP) at a meeting under the presidentship of Pramil Srivastava criticised UPA government decision to hike petrol and diesel prices. Speaking on the occasion, party’s founder member Sunil Chandra Jain said that the Congress which came to power with the help of the poor and the middle class had become anti-people.

The BJSP activists will burn the effigy of the UPA Government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Subhash Chowk in Civil Lines on Wednesday.
