Centre to pump more funds into Telangana

The Centre is keen on ensuring rapid and all round development of Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh and is eager to invest more funds there, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said on Wednesday.

Singh, who is a member of the sub-committee on the Telangana issue headed by Union Minister Pranab Mukherjee, told reporters here that all round development of the region would fulfil the aspirations of the people of that area.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, headed by Union Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is demanding statehood.

Singh, who reviewed the status of rural development programmes in Andhra Pradesh, said the state was faring well.

He appreciated the fact that out of 22 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the country, Andhra Pradesh accounted for nearly 25 per cent of the total figure.

Singh said that that the Central release for the State was Rs 1,503.90 crore during 2005-06, which was 46.42 per cent higher than the previous year.

Reviewing the status of the rural development schemes in Karnataka, the Minister said that he could give "pass marks" to the state as it had lot more to do.
