CM flags off 25th state games in city

As many as 5,400 players from 26 teams, from across the state are participating in 31 events. The 25th Haryana State Games began in Gurgaon on Thursday. The four-day event was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Captain of Gurgaon team Dharamvir administered oath to the participants. The games will conclude on October 23. The chief minister declared the games open and hoisted the games’ flag. He released a souvenir and a technical handbook of the games, published by Haryana Olympic Association.

Hooda announced a grant of R31 lakh to the Haryana Olympic Association for promotion of the games. Addressing on the occasion, the chief minister appealed to the players to play with true sportsman spirit and give their best without worrying about their victory or defeat.

He said hard work put by sportspersons, liberal sports policy of the state government, good sports facilities and training have brought good results. During the last six years the state has brought laurels by winning medals in Commonwealth Games and Asiad. Haryana is being seen as an emerging sports power, Hooda said.
