Student leader Vijay Kumar Dwivedi said in a press release that the students urged the DSW to allow the inmates to stay in the hostel as they were ready to pay the charges. The DSW was also requested not to drive out the legal inmates who had occupied the rooms after payment. The DSW has called a meeting of the patron and in-charge of JD hostel to discuss the matter.
Dwivedi said that the trustees of the hostel intended to sell the hostel property, but the students would thwart their plans.
AUSU publication secretary Kalpana said in a press release that the letter pads and other stationary printed by name on orders by the executive committee members was ready. The members should collect their material between 2 pm to 4 pm on Thursday and Friday.
Students’ expulsion issue
BAHUJAN CHHATRA Sabha (BCS) general secretary Surendra Chaudhary has challenged convenor Shiv Babu Saroj’s decision to expel Allahabad University students’ union president Ajit Yadav from the party.
The matter was discussed during a meeting of executives and BCS office-bearers at the students’ union hall on Tuesday.
Chaudhary said Saroj had no authority to expel Yadav without the consent of the office-bearers and the executive council members of the party. Yadav efficiently carried out his duties and he should be credited for sincere efforts for disbursement of scholarship and students’ group assurance, he said.
Chaudhary levelled charges against Saroj and terminated him from the membership and post of party convenor. He said the new convenor and office-bearers would be elected at the party conference.
Signature campaign
Members of the All India Students’ Association carried out a signature campaign in support of their demands at the employment office on Tuesday. The peaceful demonstration was supported by thousands of youths.
AISA State president Ramayan Ram demanded unemployment allowance for all unemployed graduates, including those who had got themselves registered at the employment exchange after December 31, 2005.
AISA leaders also demanded to increase the unemployment allowance from Rs 500 to Rs 1, 000. Employment exchange counters were demanded in the university and its constituent colleges.
Cricket tourney
Inmates of Tara Chand Hostel of AU won the AU Shobh Nath Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament for the third time. TC Hostel defeated Holland Hall in the finals.match of the tournament on Tuesday.
