A newly-elected municipal councillor has filed a complaint with the police after he received bulk SMSes containing derogatory remarks in his name. Yashpal Batra, who won the MCG elections from ward No. 12, said somebody is trying to tarnish his image by launching this campaign.

“During the election, someone made a fake ID in my name and sent massages to people to vote for the election symbol of ‘bow and arrow’ at serial No. 1 in the voting machine. But my No. was 8,” said Batra.

“Their aim was to create confusion among voters. When the election campaigning was in the final stage, they distributed pamphlets written ‘vote ke badley note (cash for votes)’,” said Batra.

The police have handed over the case to the cyber crime cell.
