India's lower house of parliament on Tuesday approved the Congress Party-led government's union budget for the fiscal year 2008/09.
Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram had earlier announced a small number of changes to the budget -- outlined in late February -- and detailed a series of new steps to calm inflation, which is currently ruling near 3-year highs.
