Tightening the noose around illegal sand miners, the police arrested six persons and seized eight dumpers on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of illegal sand miners were digging sand at Kambakshpur village in Greater Noida, the police swung into action and arrested the accused.
“We received information that a group of illegal sand miners were digging sand in a field. A police team raided the spot and seized eight dumpers. While four dumpers were filled with sand, four were empty.
Six people have been arrested,” said a senior police officer.
The Noida police have tightened security after some ‘goons’ of sand miners allegedly attacked seven truck drivers carrying sand on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Eight persons have been arrested in this connection.
The Noida police have started conducting surprise checkings in areas where illegal mining is common. A team of police officials is expected to visit the river bed area to keep tabs on the illegal practice.
“There is zero tolerance against illegal miners. To take appropriate action against these miners and rogue transport operators, we’ve written a letter to the district magistrate to ask the mining officer to file a complaint against illegal mining before the court. This is because the police cannot register an FIR,” said senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar.
