Model shop employees kill customer
EMPLOYEES OF a model shop assaulted an uncle-nephew duo brutally, leading to the death of one of them, following a petty dispute at Lalbagh in Hazratganj, late Thursday night. Initially, the cops were avoiding initiating any action as the owner of the shop is a leading businessman and some Samajwadi Party leaders attempted to suppress the matter. But relatives of the victims staged a sit-in at the police station on Friday afternoon and three of the accused were arrested later.
EMPLOYEES OF a model shop assaulted an uncle-nephew duo brutally, leading to the death of one of them, following a petty dispute at Lalbagh in Hazratganj, late Thursday night. Initially, the cops were avoiding initiating any action as the owner of the shop is a leading businessman and some Samajwadi Party leaders attempted to suppress the matter. But relatives of the victims staged a sit-in at the police station on Friday afternoon and three of the accused were arrested later.
The incident took place around 10.30 pm when Shiv Kumar Yadav (35) and his nephew Sonu of Kashmiri Mohalla, Saadatganj visited the Lalbagh model shop.
The duo was already drunk as they were returning from a party at a friend’s place in Raqabganj. The uncle-nephew duo purchased liquor from the shop and went to the canteen to consume it. Instead of placing an order for snacks there, Yadav asked Sonu to bring some from outside. Sonu went away and returned with some eatables. Since bringing snacks from outside is not allowed at the canteen, canteen manager Mohammad Farooqui alias Vicky stopped Sonu at the entrance and asked the youth to either leave the eatables outside or have liquor elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Yadav walked up and the uncle-nephew duo engaged in a heated exchange with Vicky. The duo requested Vicky to let them to stay and said they would order snacks from the canteen too. But, Vicky started misbehaving with them and forced them to leave the shop immediately. The manager even pushed the duo outside the entrance hurling expletives when Yadav and Sonu asked him to behave himself.
While they were engaged in the verbal duel, Vicky slapped Sonu. The act irked Yadav and he too retaliated pushing the manager aside. Vicky raised an alarm and all the salesmen, waiters and the security guards at the shop gathered and attacked Yadav and Sonu with sticks and iron rods.
They assaulted the uncle-nephew duo till they fell unconscious bleeding profusely. Vicky later asked his staff to throw the injured outside. The staff of the shop later closed the shop leaving the victims there.
While neighbouring shopkeepers and passers-by witnessed the brutal attack on the victims, none of them informed the police. It was around 1 am that Sonu came to his senses and arranged for a rickshaw to take his uncle home. The family members rushed them to the KGMU Trauma Centre where Yadav succumbed to the head injury around 3 am. The family members informed the Hazratganj police in the morning. But, before the cops initiated action, some Samajwadi Party leaders reached the police station in defence of the assailants.
They pressed police not to initiate any action and ignore the matter.
The cops later arrested Vicky, salesman Sanjay Jaiswal and waiter at the model shop Pravesh Tiwari. Guard Deepak was reported absconding.
