Omar hails Centre's decision to increase cap on LPG

Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday heaved a sigh of relief and thanked the Union petroleum ministry for increasing the cap of subsidised cooking gas cylinder from six to nine cylinders per year.

"(I am) Grateful to the govt of India for accepting states like J&K's request to increase the number of subsidised LPG cylinders," wrote Omar on micro-blogging website Twitter.

The Jammu and Kashmir government was under tremendous pressure from the common masses to increase the cap, imposed last year across the country. However, the union petroleum ministry on Thursday increased the cap from six to nine cylinders, starting April this year.

"States like J&K need it more. We can't afford the Rs 200 Crores to increase the quote ourselves, so our request genuine," wrote Omar.
