Acting district magistrate of Varanasi, Jag Prasad, flagged off the rally from the district headquarters this morning. After passing several routes, including Lahurabeer, Chowk, Godowlia, Sonarpura, Assi, Lanka etc., it culminated at Durgakund area.
About 10 vehicles of the heath department and 50 other private vehicles participated in the vehicular rally. Audio cassettes of religious and prominent leaders were also played during the rally to motivate people.
He said that it was need of hour to spread awareness among the people about the benefits of polio drops.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr AP Singh, who led the rally said that a target has been set to administer polio drops to 6 lakh 49,000 people in Varanasi district. He said that about 1,821 polio booths would be set up in the district out of which 1,065 would be set up in rural areas while 756 would be set up in urban areas.
Dr Singh informed that this time about 233 polio booths would also be set at identified sensitive brick kiln establishments in the district. Dr Singh further called upon the parents to send their wards at polio booths between 7 am to 3 pm on Sunday.
District health information officer, Dr SC Joshi informed that door-to-door campaign for administering polio drops to the kids would star from April 10 to 14.
He further informed that total of 1,109 teams had been formed for this campaign.
He said, divisional commissioner of Varanasi, CN Dubey, would visit at the IMA polio booth on Sunday.
