Pune, Udaipur, Gwalior enter next round

PUNE, UDAIPUR, Gwalior teams today entered the next round of the South West Zone Inter-University Women Basketball Championship that began at Maj Dhyanchand Ground yesterday. In the first match, excellent fast game by Pune team saw the team?s one-sided win against Indore.

PUNE, UDAIPUR, Gwalior teams today entered the next round of the South West Zone Inter-University Women Basketball Championship that began at Maj Dhyanchand Ground yesterday. In the first match, excellent fast game by Pune team saw the team’s one-sided win against Indore.

From the very first minute of the game Pune team managed to develop pressure on the opponents. Lack of coordination and losing the opportunities was responsible for the Indore’s defeat. Brilliant baskets by Sweta and Sai Nayak of Pune posed problems for Indore team in entire match. They shared 14 and 7 points respectively.

However, Simran who was trying her best to attack opponents failed to convert moves in points as the teammates could not provide the required help. She scored seven points. The second match also ended after a dominating show by Udaipur against Nanded. Udaipur won the match 37-14. Madhu scored highest points for Udaipur.

Earlier, in a colourful opening ceremony, mayor Sunil Sood declared the championship open. On the occasion, Barkatullah University (BU) Vice-Chancellor Dr RS Sirohi, BU Director Sports DR Akhliesh Sharma, Dr Alok Mishra, Anil Singh Tanwar, Mukesh Sharma and others were present.
