Safety system switched off?

The tall claims of the Haryana fire services department and mall authorities on strict adherence to safety norms have fallen flat as it has come to light that several restro-bars and discotheques turn off their fire alarm systems to allow revellers to smoke and show fire stunts to lure customers.

This puts the lives of thousands of mall visitors and staff in danger. “The fire alarm and smoke sensors at Zygo bar were not working. It seems they had deliberately switched off the safety equipment. This is a common illegal practice in many bars,” said Hanuman Sihag, chief fire officer.

MGF Metropolitan Mall vice-president Brigadier Puri said, “We will revisit pubs to prevent any mischief. We will not tolerate any misconduct.”
