A source said they met justice AK Mathur to convey the armed forces' concerns regarding pay, rank and pension issues to the panel well in advance.

The last time soldiers and veterans saw a revision in their pay, allowances and pension was in 2009 when the report of the sixth central pay commission was implemented.

However, there was sweeping discontent in the defence community over rank and pay issues not addressed by the previous pay panel.

The latest pay commission was set up in February 2014 and its recommendations are likely to be implemented from January 2016.
