The New Zealand band Split Enz will reform for a tour in June 22 years after they split, members announced on Wednesday.
The band, which shifted its base to the southern city of Melbourne soon after they formed in 1972, will tour five Australian cities from June 7-16.
Frontman and founder Tim Finn said the idea of a return tour came during rehearsals for a special performance last year when Split Enz was inducted into the Australian music industry's hall of fame. The six-member band farewelled fans with their 'Enz With A Bang!' tour in 1984 after recording hits including History Never Repeats, I See Red and I Got You.
The lineup will be Tim Finn, his brother Neil Finn, who went on to form the internationally acclaimed band Crowded House in 1985,Eddie Rayner, Noel Crombie, Nigel Griggs, and Malcolm Green. Former drummer Paul Hester, who also became part of Crowded House, hanged himself in Melbourne last year aged 46. The latest tour is not the first since Split Enz formally disbanded. The band toured in 1993 and several members were involved in a 1997 tour of orchestrated versions of their songs with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
