THE UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) will again seek more time from the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) to file the annual revenue requirement (ARR)/tariff proposal.

As the commission was holding its meeting to decide how to tackle a recalcitrant UPPCL which was not filing the ARR for 2006-07 despite reminders, a senior power official called up commission chairman Vijoy Kumar requesting him to allow one-month time to the UPPCL to file the tariff proposal. He pleaded that the issue of rural subsidy was still being discussed by the government and filing the ARR was not possible till the subsidy issue was decided.

Kumar said he would consider the request when in came to him in black and white. He said he was studying similar situations faced by Regulatory Commissions in some other States. One of the options, which the Commission has, is that it may fix the tariff of its own However, one wonders if the UPPCL will honour the deadline this time as it has failed to file the ARR despite seeking extension of deadline several times, in the past.
